LASU Lecturer, Olalekan Hassan, Bags Ph.D

 

How his thesis on “Press Freedom and Repression in a Democracy: A Comparative Study of the Administrations of Presidents Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari” earned him highest academic degree

 

 

A lecturer at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), Olalekan Hassan, has successfully defended his thesis for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Communication Studies.

Platforms Africa reports that Hassan, who had his M.Sc in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) was officially pronounced a Ph.D. holder by the External Examiner, Professor Ibrahim Ismail, who incidentally taught him at UNILAG during his M.Sc programme. He has his first degree in Journalism at LASU.

Hassan, on Monday, December 12, 2022, defended his thesis titled; “Press Freedom and Repression in a Democracy: A Comparative Study of the Administrations of Presidents Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari,” before a panel of top academics chaired by Associate Professor Tunde Akanni. Hassan was supervised by Professors Rotimi Olatunji, First Professor of Public Relations and Advertising, LASU and a former Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies; and Jide Jimoh, Professor of Journalism, LASU.

Other members of the panel are: Professor Joseph Olagunju, Dean Postgraduate School, LASU; Professor Harrison Adeniyi, a Professor of Linguistics, African Languages and Communication; who is the internal-external supervisor; and Mr. Oduyomi, Secretary, Postgraduate School, LASU.

Present at the defense were Professor Lai Oso, a world-renowned scholar of Communication and a Professor of Mass Communication; Associate Professor Jimi Kayode, Dr. T.O.S. Owolabi; and Dr. Noeem Thanny.

Hassan Olalekan, who is a member of Platforms Africa forum, hails from Epe in Lagos, Nigeria.
